KuvA RESEARCH DAYS 9–11.12.2019

This year's KuvA Research Days lead us to ponder the preconditions and urgent questions of the human experience. How does artistic thinking meet the dead end of fossil capitalism? What kinds of actor networks should artistic research position itself in? What is the shape of arts discourse if the focus is shifted away from humans? What role do we give to the work and its materiality in experiencing art? Can experimentality offer tools for dealing with extreme phenomena and for building a sustainable future?

The Academy of Fine Arts Research Days are now organized for the fifth time – this year’s dates are 9–11 December 2019 and the venue, as before, is the Exhibition Laboratory gallery (Merimiehenkatu 36, Helsinki).

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO STREET WORK THE ENTRANCE TO THE GALLERY MIGHT BE FROM THE OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE BLOCK: PURSIMIEHENKATU 29!

The exhibition I Experience as I Experiment – I Experiment as I Experience curated by Denize Ziegler is also open 27.11–11.12.2019 in the gallery.

The publication I Experience as I Experiment – I Experiment as I Experience (2019) brings together thoughts on the origin of an artwork and on the need for making it. The book is available as a open access publication in the Uniarts Helsinki HELDA depository.

The “Conflict of the Faculties” one-day show on 12.12.2019 of a conceptual sculpture by Ilya Orlov is a collateral event to KuvA Research Days 2019.
