Brass @ Sibelius Academy 5.-10.6.2017

Brass @ Sibelius Academy is a new international education and concert event for brass instruments in Helsinki. It was organised for the first time on June 6th-12th 2016.

The next festival will be on June 5th to 10th 2017. 

The teachers and artists for the event include brass teachers from the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts Helsinki and a group of other internationally acclaimed brass instrumentalists. In addition to master classes, the event will also feature a high-level concert series in the Helsinki Music Centre and the Temppeliaukio Church.

The Brass @ Sibelius Academy event is realized with the financial aid from Svenska Kulturfonden. The project aims to strengthen nordic collaboration and exchange of know-how within education of brass instruments.

Brass @ Sibelius Academy festival will feature four international expert lectures.

Uniarts Sibelius Academy’s lecturers Päivi Arjas and Erja Joukamo-Ampuja will give a lecture on advanced practising techniques. Raine Ampuja and Paul Niemisto will present the forgotten Finnish brass tradition. On June 7th, the theme will be Nordic brass playing and the lecture series will be concluded by John Miller’s insight on the British trumpet and cornet schools.

The lectures will take place in the Helsinki Music Centre auditorium (Mannerhemintie 13), free entrance.
