Welcome to follow world-class woodwind classes in June

The international Woodwinds course, organized in June, will bring around a hundred young woodwind students from around the world to the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts. During a week-long course, they are taught by musicians from the world's top orchestras. The audience is welcome to follow the teaching at the Helsinki Music Center's halls on 1-7 June 2016. During the Woodwind week, artists from the Concertgebouw Orchestra and the Berlin Philharmonic will be teaching alongside the Sibelius Academy woodwind faculty..

In addition to the Woodwind faculty of the University of the Arts Helsinki, also flutists Emily Beynon (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra) and Sophie Cherrier (Ensemble intercontemporain), oboist Dominik Wollenweber (Berlin Philharmonic), clarinetists Calogero Palermo (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra), saxophonists Claude Delangle (Conservatoire national supérieur de musique et de danse de Paris) and bassoonist Dag Jensen (Norwegian Academy of Music, Performing Arts Munich) have been invited to teach in Helsinki.

In addition to open master classes, the woodwind week also offers a spectacular setting of concerts at the Helsinki Music Center and other facilities. Professor Harri Mäki of the Sibelius Academy of the University of the Arts has been the artistic director and responsible teacher for the event.

- In addition to teaching their instruments, the Concertgebouw's artists bring along also the tradition of their ensemble culture. They come from many different countries, even from different continents, but have developed an exceptionally sophisticated ensemble sound. From this our course participants can learn a lot! This collaboration will continue after the Sibelius Summer Academy in our university’s everyday life for more than one semester, Mäki rejoices.

The detailed concert and master class programme of the Sibelius Summer Academy can be found in the University of Art events calendar.
