Title and description of speech:

The Challenge of Critical Education

Critical educational research and policies face a number of dilemmas in a time of conservativism. This lecture discusses a number of these personal and academic challenges and possibilities. In the process, it argues against cynicism and for a position that is best described as "optimism without illusions" and urges us to continue our important work in connecting the arts with movements toward social justice.
