Centre for Artistic Research – CfAR – is one of the three research centres of Uniarts. CfAR´s task is to develop postdoctoral activities in artistic research. During the year, 2018 CfAR will put in action several measures serving this goal. The following call is the first of them!

The Centre for Artistic Research, CfAR is opening a call for


for short, four-month fixed-term positions commencing from 1/3/2018 onwards. Final, specific dates of commencing employment during 2018 shall be agreed upon separately with each successful applicant.

As a CfAR Researcher, your job is to prepare a personal or collective artistic research initiative application, as well as work towards one peer-reviewed article for publication. The University of the Arts Helsinki research services will offer support regarding the application for the initiative. In addition, the successful applicants will participate in other separately agreed CfAR activities.

You are eligible to apply for this position if you hold a suitable doctoral degree from a Finnish or international university. If selected, the university and the applicant will agree on the periodicity of the employment - months of employment do not have to run sequentially. However, they must all take place during 2018. It is also permissible to work part-time. The gross salary of the position is 3600€/month. If during employment the initiative’s application for financing is successful, the university will secure a contract of further employment with the successful applicant.


Applicants are requested to provide all the following documents:

  • A motivation letter (1 page)
  • A preliminary research plan, which clearly indicates the field of research, subject, estimated proportions of the initiative, schedule of implementation, the materials required, technical and financial resources required, possible staff resources, as well and potential partners (max. 4 pages)
  • List of publications and/or artistic portfolio.
