Finnish Doctoral Network for Music Research


The Finnish Doctoral Network for Music Research is comprised of eight universities: Sibelius Academy, the University of Helsinki, the Universities of Eastern Finland, Jyväskylä, Oulu, Tampere and Turku, and Åbo Akademi.

The central operating principle of the network is upholding the preceding Doctoral Programme in Music Research (2012–2015), that is, supporting national multidisciplinary research on music and the surrounding cultural reality.

NOTE: This network does not award doctoral degrees. It exists to further collaboration in doctoral studies and supervision between music research units in Finnish universities. If you are interested in doctoral studies in Finland, kindly contact the professor(s) working in university department(s) that appear most suitable for your topic and approach.Also, there are no funded doctoral student positions available in the network itself: all doctoral students within the network are post-graduate students of the partner universities.

null MuToVe Winter school, January 16–17, 2023: registration open

Registration for the Winter school of the Finnish Doctoral Network for Music Research (January 16–17, 2023) is now open online: (password: 23talvikoulu). This time, the event will take place in a hybrid format, i.e., mainly on site at Kallio-Kuninkala, but with a possibility to attend online via Zoom on Tuesday, January 17. Please find attached the preliminary program draft. 
We kindly ask everyone interested to register by January 2, 2023. Participants presenting their work at the Winter school should also send 1) their texts and 2) up-to-date table of contents files for their doctoral projects  as attachments files either via the registration link or via e-mail ( Please note that you can edit your registration form even after sending it (until January 2).  

All necessary information (including Zoom link) has been gathered on a separate DigiCampus page. You can find the instructions, link and password for accessing the DigiCampus course area in the confirmation e-mail that you will automatically get once registered. We kindly ask all participants to familiarise themselves well in advance with the documents (Winter school info, technical information, safer space guidelines, writers’ instructions and guidelines for opponents) uploaded on DigiCampus. The DigiCampus materials will be updated and complemented until the beginning of January, and schedule changes are possible. 
This year our guest speakers will be Meri Kytö and Tuire Ranta-Meyer from Musiikki journal and The Finnish Musicological Society and Professor Tarja Rautiainen-Keskustalo (Uni. Tampere). The precise topics of their guest lectures will be updated on the DigiCampus page until the beginning of January.
