null Upcoming program at Research Pavilion

The Research Pavilion #3, situated in the Sala del Camino on Giudecca, is a vibrant, changing space that presents the multiple methods and practices of conducting artistic research.

A three-day event called Convocation will activate the Research Pavilion on June 16–18. Weaving between artistic research and phenomenological approaches, the event will include open workshops, live research, collective writing/reading exercises, and performative lectures. Participants can attend the whole three-day event or just specific sessions. See the full programme and sign up.

In June, the Research Pavilion also hosts a series of free workshops open to all, conceived by the Disruptive Processes group that consists of ten researching artists from Finland and Sweden. The themes of the workshops vary from feminist gatherings to sensory experiences in urban space, and from building a shared meeting space, the Temporary Agora, to exploring whether and how art these days is a market economy product that can be transported from one place to another.

One of the workshops, Wording, on June 12–14, can also be attended from outside Venice: In this experiment, writers will go to any public space, observe their environment and write down their observations during a 72-hour period. The exercise is open to everyone at any location. See all workshops and sign up.

Research Pavilion #3 uses the international research database Research Catalogue as a collaborative space for documenting the activities of the research cells, forming a living archive of their work. In the Research Catalogue, you can follow for example Tuomas Laitinen's durational performance Notes of an audience member, or take a look at Tuula Närhinen’s project Insects among us.

Call for contributions
Research Pavilion #3 sparks off discussion concerning artistic research also in the form of a peer-reviewed issue of the RUUKKU journal. RUUKKU is a multidisciplinary, multilingual, peer-reviewed rich media journal on artistic research. As an extension of the current edition of the Research Pavilion, and spurred on by a general ecologization of thinking, this issue of RUUKKU is entitled "Ecology of Practices" and will highlight ethico-political issues on the level of artistic research practices. The deadline for RUUKKU proposals is 1 October. See the call here.

The 5th Nida Doctoral School: "Fight The Power 2019/1989: We, the Ungovernable"

The Nida Doctoral School (NDS) will be held at the Lithuanian Pavilion, the Research Pavilion and additional environments in Venice. Entitled ‘Fight The Power’, this year’s Nida Doctoral School is energized by the 30th anniversary of Spike Lee’s ‘Do The Right Thing’ and its opening credit sequence soundtrack-ed by Public Enemy. Convinced by the radical potentialities of research-as-praxis, NDS utilises this 30th anniversary to ask: what does it mean to do the right thing?
