The basics of pedagogical activities in recreational activities for children and young people (3 ECTS)

The basics of pedagogical activities in recreational activities for children and young people is a course which has been implemented already seven times between 2022 and 2024. The training was initially a part of the national child strategy and subsequently a part of the development of the Finnish Model for Leisure Activities. It is aimed at supervisors or leaders of sports, art, culture and other hobbies. The first implementation of the training was organised in summer 2022.

All trainings are carried out in accordance with the same curriculum and they correspond in terms of content. The training includes remote lectures, small group work, peer mentoring, online discussions and pedagogical development tasks. The key themes of the training are the quality of recreational activities for children and young people and the development of pedagogy, as well as the development stages of children and young people. These topics and current information in the field are discussed under the guidance of top Finnish experts in special education, constitutional law, psychiatry, education and psychology as well as arts and physical education.

The course is organised by the Open Campus of Uniarts Helsinki and the Observatory for Arts and Cultural Education, Finland in cooperation with the Olympic Committee. The course is funded by the Ministry of Education and Culture. 

All lectures and study materials are in Finnish but students can write their assignments also in English or Swedish. The registration for the course ends on 30 August 2024.
