Special Issue of the Finnish Journal of Music Education 2023 – Call for Papers
Finnish Journal of Music Education (FJME) is inviting papers for a special issue, “Emerging Perspectives on Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy”, to explore the most recent relevant research to support instrumental/vocal teachers in delivering individualized/group instruction in keyboard, wind, string and percussion instruments, and voice.
The particular focus of this special issue is on student-centered and “humanly compatible” pedagogies (Musumeci, 2005; Pozo et al., 2022) that 1) prioritize the physical and psychological health of music students through the inclusion of specific contents and practices related to developing both cognitive and social-emotional skills, and 2) challenge overused power hierarchies in the music studio.
The topic can be approached from the perspective of various disciplines and research questions. We hope this special issue to reflect the multiplicity of approaches and viewpoints to instrumental and vocal (performance) pedagogy at all educational levels, from music schools to higher education, as well as informal and nonformal music education – both on a one-to-one or small group basis.
