Sibelius Academy


The internationally renowned Sibelius Academy, located in Finland’s capital city Helsinki, was founded in 1882 and bears the distinguished name of the great Finnish master composer Jean Sibelius. The Sibelius Academy ranks today as one of the largest and most prestigious music universities in Europe. In addition to providing the highest education in the field of music, the Academy engages prominently in performance and in creative artistic activity and research.

Degree programs are offered in: Church Music, Composition and Music Theory, Folk Music, Jazz Music, Orchestral and Choral Conducting, Music Education, Music Technology, Music Performance, Vocal Music and Arts Management.

Nearly all of the great Finnish international music stars and virtuosos, past and present, are Academy graduates, including: Opera singers Karita Mattila, Soile Isokoski, Matti Salminen and Tommi Hakala; conductors Esa-Pekka Salonen and Osmo Vänskä; pianist Olli Mustonen and composer Kaija Saariaho to name a few.
