Sibelius Hall

Lahti

The nature of the program required a hall which would function with the quintets as well as the rather orchestral septet. For me the obvious choice was Sibelius Hall in Lahti, which is not only my regular place of work, but also has adjustable acoustics. The hall, seating up to 1250 listeners, is considered one of the best concert halls in Europe and with its completely wooden structure is has a significantly warm timbre. The possibility of adjusting the acoustics of the large hall to benefit the chamber ensembles seemed the crucial feature for a possible concert venue, if not a delightful opportunity for my demonstrative work. After only a short consultation with the collaborating acoustician, Henrik Möller it became evident that Sibelius Hall would bend well to our purposes.

Considering what we had learned from the previous concert we needed to ensure a sufficient amount of rehearsal time in the hall for the fine tuning of the acoustics and the adaptation process of the musicians. We managed to get a generous three full rehearsals and a dress rehearsal in the hall.
