Programme - carpa
Programme
CARPA8 includes three different orientations: Transitions and transgressions, Thresholds and frictions, and Algorithmization and automated movement.
Day 1, Colloquium:
Presentations exploring the three main areas of investigations (indoors).
Day 2, Laboratory:
Presentations exploring the three main areas of investigations (indoors).
Researching shared questions in working groups through walkabouts and movement practices* (indoors and outdoors).
*We understand movement to be both physical and mental. The practices we share will be developed in ways that are accessible to all.
Day 3, Commons:
Bringing together findings and reflecting on them together (indoors). The lengths of the presentations are from 30 minutes to 90 minutes.
LOUNGE
Throughout the conference days, there is our Commons located in Auditorium 2 at TeaK Tori that is a space to slow down or even take moments of stillness and rest when need. We encourage you to be at a different tempo in this space and allow information (cognitive, abstract, kinaesthetic) and questions (theoretical, artistic) you are receiving to find their own motion and forms of expression.
POP-UP VR WORK TRY OUT
There will be an opportunity to try out the VR work presented by Tomi Humalisto, Nanni Vapaavuori and Meri Ekola at a pop-up point at Tori in the entrance hall of the Theatre Academy on Thursday 24th during the pause at 11:30–12:00 as well as Friday 25th at 9:00-9:45 and during the pause at 11:30–12:00.

Introduction to the Setting things in motion sessions:
The Laboratory part of CARPA8 begins with this workshop. Each of the three working groups of the conference (that is to say, participants of the three strands) will come together for a short workshop to look at the questions found and generated during the first day of the conference, matching ideas with ‘explorers’, and preparing people to work on them in pairs (or small groups) outdoors in the afternoon. Each workshop is facilitated by the Host of that strand. Come with a curious mind and ideas – and you’ll leave with a special quest (tailor-made to your aims and abilities) and a small team to explore with outdoors in the afternoon.

Introduction to the Walkabout sessions:
Put on your (real or virtual) walking shoes (bring your sunglasses, raincoat, drinking water and light snacks), and explore your questions generated during the morning workshop and Helsinki the way you haven’t explored before! Solvitur ambulando (solved by moving) – how does walking contribute to emerging ideas about dramaturgies of artistic research? We’ll find out in action.

CONFERENCE STRANDS, SHARING FINDINGS AND KEYNOTES
Sessions 23-25
Introduction to the Commoning sessions:
This workshop, facilitated by the Host of the strand will bring together each working group (each strand) for sharing and discussing the findings of Walkabouts. Bring along your quest documentation and get ready to present your discoveries in any way that is suitable.
In the second half of the session, together with one of the Keynote Speakers we’ll discuss the findings and see in what way they move our thinking forward on the questions of our working group. These findings will also be taken to the Keynote Lectures later this afternoon, to be shared with the all the conference participants.
