CARPA8
Day 2 (Friday, 25th August 2023): Laboratory
SOLVITUR AMBULANDO (SOLVED BY MOVING)

“The world changes with the movements of explorers, prospectors, invaders, exiles, tourists, nomads, drifters, runaways, trespassers, squatters, the homeless, the missing, the lost, the found, the newcomers.”
 – Stephen Hodge, Simon Persighetti, Phil Smith, Cathy Turner, Tony Weaver
(A mis-GUIDE to ANYWHERE, Wrights & Sites, 2006)

Are you ready to move?

Day two of the CARPA8 conference moves from a Colloquium to a Laboratory format.

After the morning sessions (which will complete Friday’s presentations), we invite you to attend a workshop ‘Setting Things in Motion’ offered by your chosen strand/working group. It will be facilitated by the CARPA8 Host of each working group (Jess Applebaum & Leena Rouhiainen, Otso Huopaniemi, Katalin Trencsényi) with the aim of allowing you to find three things by the end of it:
●    a question raised during the first (Colloquium) part of the conference to explore,
●    a partner (or partners) with whom you share this research interest,
●    a route your team will go in the afternoon.

After the lunch break, you’ll find equipment (including maps and quest sheets) at the Information Desk. We will ask you to check out (place your marker on the map) so that we know where you’ll be. From there, the afternoon is yours to quest and “solve” things by moving. You’ll have the whole afternoon (14.00 – 18.00) for this work.

If you prefer not to explore by walking, we’ll also offer alternative indoor actions.

Remember to document your solvitur ambulando work and prepare to share it with the rest of your strand / working group on Saturday during the morning workshop, facilitated by the Host with a Keynote Speaker.

If you have questions on the second day’s work, the Hosts of your strand will be happy to answer them on the day.
