Who are you, where do you come from, where are you now and where are you going?

How do you think of yourself as a person, as a musician, as a student and as an artist?  Your values, your conceptions about yourself and about your potential contribute to your self-image, which in turn affects everything you do.

Take some time to stop and think.

How did music come into your life? Why do you play music or sing? What excites and inspires you – music, your instrument, self-expression or something else? What motivates you? What makes you curious?

What are your strengths, and how do you use them? What are the skills you want to acquire – can you identify in yourself a desire to learn and discover new things?

What are your goals now that you are beginning your studies? What do you want and expect from the Sibelius Academy? What kind of an artist do you want to become? What do you expect from your teachers?

It is also a good idea to look at the timeline of your life: what you have done, what is happening now and what you would like to see in the future. Setting goals – large and small – will energise your studies. Your vision of your future is a valuable thing!
