11:00–11:30 Some words, some images, concerning the act of writing

Host: Niran Baibulat, Doctoral Student, Academy of Fine Arts, Uniarts Helsinki

My talk is about the work “Access to Landscape” I displayed in the exhibition “You Gotta Say Yes to Another Access” in Uniarts Helsinki´s Research Pavilion in Venice 2017. Regarding the idea of searching the ground as a base for writing, I temporarily occupy public space.

11:30–12:00 BOOK LAUNCH: Futures of Artistic Research. At the Intersection of Utopia, Academia and Power

Futures of Artistic Research. At the Intersection of Utopia, Academia and Power, edited by Jan Kaila, Anita Seppä and Henk Slager, is a collection of essays, which brings into focus and explains the actual significance and future possibilities of the experimental critiques that are emerging across the field of artistic research.

Designed to raise challenging discussions and to feed and push forward the already existing ones, the book is structured around seven main questions/topics that interest now a wide interdisciplinary field of scholars, curators, and artists. These questions have been sent to the writers as an inquiry. The authors have been given a possibility to decide to answer all questions or to write a short essay based on some of the questions.

12:00 WEBPAGE LAUNCH

We are launching a new page in the artisticresearch.fi site hosted by Uniarts Helsinki. The page is a portal that collects current activity in Finnish artistic research, using automated feeds. Listed on the page are recent and current projects, thesis works and articles. The page currently uses the Research Catalogue, but can be developed to include more feeds from different sites.

DISPLAY

As Artistic Researchers, we are engaged with the process of exposing our research. These processes of exposition are naturally uncovered as documents of many kinds. This project offered at the Research Pavilion a discursive exploration of these processes as an impermanent presentation, an intervention and temporary counterpoint to the surrounding exhibition and Biennale. The display can be viewed again in the Exhibition Laboratory gallery during the Research Days 2017.

A project by Doctoral Researchers Matthew Cowan, Leena Kela, Ilya Orlov and Anssi Pulkkinen from the University of the Arts Helsinki in collaboration with Doctoral researchers in Visual Arts from the University of Auckland, Roman Mitch, Rebecca Hobbs and Harriet Stockman.
