Your personal strengths and progress

Knowing your personal strengths will help you to learn. If you genuinely understand what is good about your own playing, it will enable you to believe in your ability to learn. This freedom of mind will make learning new things easier.

It's worth monitoring your progress and noting in, for example, your practice diary, when you have learnt a certain technique or piece. Occasionally take the time to look back through your notes and you'll be able to see your progress in these small successes.

Do genuinely try to discover your personal strengths as a musician. Remember: don’t compare yourself to a top international artist. Think about what your strengths are at the level you are currently at. It could be a beautiful voice, quick fingers, powerful musical expression, a good sense of style, or whatever. Seek confidence in your playing through your strengths.
